Well THAT'S annoying! OTF PS fonts not supported!

I was enjoying the fact that MadCap recently updated Flare to finally support OTF PS fonts and today I needed to add a text overlay in Capture, only to remember that the Capture hasn't been updated in ages...which means, it still doesn't support the OTF fonts that I need to use!

It is pretty ridiculous that I must use a cheaper Snagit editor just so that I can utilize Windows standard OTF fonts. Grrrr...

Just a little rant as I end my day.

MadCap support once told me that since it was no longer a paid product, it became low priority, in regards to regular updates. I argued that if they didn't plan to aggressively update Capture or a suitable replacement, MadCap should stop comparing Flare to FrameMaker. Even with the current version of Capture, Flare is barely capable of building documents with rich graphics content...in contrast to FM.

I have long since come to terms with Flare's great strengths and weaknesses. In other words, I am happy with Flare! The killer combo, for me, is Flare plus InDesign in order to meet all my documentation requirements. But from an efficient workflow point of view, it would sure be nice to have a more capable MadCap Capture, in order to inline edit screen captures.

I think you've summed up the situation perfectly. It looks like Capture has indeed been left to wither. As awful as some of Capture's drawing tools are (and the crazy OTF support mismatch with Flare), I am addicted to the "right-click > edit with Capture > move, change, add a callout > save > job done" super-fast workflow. I'd hate to lose that, it is an order of magnitude faster than an external design/image app, as good as that app might be. An inline image editor would be a great alternative though, just like using Frame. Who knows, maybe there'll be something for us in Flare 11... (do we know what will be in 11 yet?)

In the near future, I will start another 'annoy MadCap until I get results' campaign, in regards to Capture or equivalent. I'll update this thread with what I learn.

Keep fighting the good fight on the Capture front. If MadCap makes Capture actually, you know, good as well as super-convenient, it would be a huge benefit to the product and my ability to recommend it to others.
