I am running into constant script errors when attempting to access help files via Mimic. Most recently it says "Unable to get property 'getElementsByTagName' of undefined or null reference" and refers to line 2569 char 9 code 0. The URL it mentions is file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/MadCap%20Software/MadCap%Mimic%20V7/Mimic.app/Resources/Mimic.mchelpf/Content/SkinSup.
Ideas? So far I'm getting a lot of issues with the program in my first few days of trying it. Not really a great sign for someone demoing it for purchase consideration. Is it that unstable?

Re: Script error when accessing help files
With which browser and version do you get these errors? Does the error negatively impact the functionality? I work a lot with web apps and especially in IE I get all kinds of JS errors mainly because IE does this differently (and incorrectly). Error free JS execution is definitely something to strife for, but I found it to be impossible to accomplish unless you write scripts specific for each browser.

Re: Script error when accessing help files
I'm attempting to run these within Mimic itself, so there really isn't a browser involved. Normally I run Google Chrome.

Re: Script error when accessing help files
Afaik Mimic uses IE internally. Which version of IE do you have installed?
As mentioned, if this has no impact on functionality I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Script error when accessing help files
I am also getting this error whenever I open a new topic in Flare or even when opening a TOC or target, pretty much all over the place.
These errors are in Flare itself while I am trying to edit etc.
I am using the following:
Windows 7 SP1
Flare 8.1.2
Internet Explorer 11
Can someone please help, it is very frustrating.
Thanks
Chris

Re: Script error when accessing help files
Flare 8 came out before IE11 as far as I recall and that may just be the reason why. Again, if this is nothing more than a nuisance error that shows up in the console I'd just ignore it. Look at any web page out there and unless they were coded for IE-only they throw errors. I'm all for squeaky clean output without any errors or warnings, but especially with the ill fated nature of IE that is close to impossible.

Re: Script error when accessing help files
Hi Ramon,
The problem is not the output.
The problem is in the application itself. The error pops up almost every time I click a link, open a topic, save a topic etc. Pretty much constantly. It is impossible to work in the application as you are constantly getting the pop-up and need to close.

Re: Script error when accessing help files
The Help files located within the software are displayed using IE controls. The script errors are caused by the recent windows update (installing IE11).
For the time being to avoid the errors, please turn off the help in the application and use the online help located in the links below.
In the ribbon, click Help and deselect Dynamic Help and close the help window.

Thanks Rob,
Turning off the help in Flare 8 resolved the issue.
Will there be a Flare 8 update to address this?
