Mimic on windows 7

Post by deeptikorwar »

Hi,

I am trying to evaluate the trial version of Mimic on a windows 7 machine. The installation was successful but as soon as I hit the Record button, I get the error message "Windows media encoder hotfix is needed". My administrator is unable to solve this issue. Suggestions please.

Thanks,
Deepti

I don't have the link to the hotfix at hand. Best is to contact support. There may be more to this problem than just the encoder patch.

@Deepti: This worked for me, got it from MadCap support:

Can you please ensure that you have both the Codec and the Encoder installed for Windows? Please visit your control panel (Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features) to locate both of the following:

Windows 7 Codec Pack
Windows Media Encoder 9 Series

If either of these are missing, please use the following download links to update your machine:

Windows Media Encoder 9 Series
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=17792

Windows 7 Codec Pack
http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-Code ... 65840.html

Whiles the Encoder is not designed for Windows 7, it is used by Mimic and not windows 7. Installing the Encoder should fix the issue.

Hi there, I have checked and confirmed the Windows 7 Codec Pack is on my machine, however the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series is not. I have tried the link above however it is no longer current. I'm having trouble finding an alternative solution.

Does anyone have any advice on this please? The error message showing to me is:

"Windows Media Encoder is not working. Use B3.WindowsMediaEncoderKit to install WME and/or its Vista hotfix."

I'm using Windows 7.

Thanks so much.

amanda,

You can download the encoder from CNET. Here's the link:

Be very careful with CNET downloads as they are prone to virus attachments and browser hijacking software. I've had it happen a couple of times now, the most recent was from this very link.
