Underscore, New Style Name?

Post by TheBrittleTechWriter »

When importing Word documents, I get new styles, similar to existing names but with underscores, such as BodyText_1, BodyText_2, BodyText_3 for BodyText.

What causes Flare to create these?

The extra styles with the underscore are usually created when a paragraph has some extra styling in it that was added on the fly, such as italic, or indenting the para. If you have styled just some individual words, then you are more likely to get a span tag.
To avoid this, have specific styles set up for all the formats you need, and don't change them on the fly. For example, if you need a para with a larger font, or indented, then create a style for this. You can also create character styles so that you don't get a million span tags as well.
For reference, this is part of what we mean when we suggest you "clean" the styles in your Word document - make sure you don't have a lot of ad hoc formatting in them.

Thanks for the insight. That connection wasn't obvious.
