Ordering topics in content manager

Post by TeleTech »

At the moment I’m migrating Word documents which have numbered headings, 1,0, 1,1, 1.1.1 etc, but my colleague has been removing the numbering. However unless we keep the original numbering of the Word documents, after import we end up with a series of topics ordered alphabetically in the content manager. This makes it difficult to follow the sequence of the document. Any suggestions?

Don't even try to keep track of your topics in Content Explorer, instead keep track of what goes where from your TOC(s). It's probably a sensible thing to remove the numbering from file names, as if you add a topic or chapter the numbering on your file names would very quickly be wrong. When you import your Word doc, Flare creates a TOC for you so that's a good starting point.

If you're really struggling with that, you could add folders in Content Explorer to divide topics by chapter, but again don't rely on chapter numbers for the names of the chapters.
