robohelp import: Heavy conditional text....

Post by woofster »

The question.... How good is the support for robohelp conditional text?

The background...
I am a long time RH user. Want to migrate to Flare.

My main RH project is > 1000 elements. This single project actually compiles into 7 different chm and and 5 different html documents. There is heavy use of conditional text (controlling text and images within a page) as well as using conditional text at the topic level (to include or exclude a topic).

For this project, in the robohelp Single Source Layouts area, there is:

CHM: A
CHM: B
CHM: C
CHM: D
<etc>
HTML: A
HTML: B
HTML: C
<etc>

I build them all....

"A" is the GIDGET project. It has a conditional build expression of:

Code: Select all

   NOT WIDGET AND NOT EXCLUDEFROMGIDGET AND NOT MIDGET AND NOT SPECIALMIDGET AND NOT WIDGETPINK AND NOT Print AND NOT WIDGETBLUE AND NOT WIDGETBLACK
The MIDGET project has a similar build expression.

Is this going to just magically flow into Flare and work?

(Guess the answer I am gunning for....! <g>)

Thanks!

I am using robohelp X5.0.2

Welcome to the Forums and happy to see another potential RoboHelp convert.
Two ideas come to mind:
a) get the Flare 4.0 trial, install it, import the RH project using the default settings....and see what happens. The output will have some random characters sprinkled in, but it isn't that obfuscating that you can't make out what topic it is
b) get in touch with MadCap Support / Sales and interview them about this

I threw RH out years ago and never looked back. And that after considering the best invention since sliced bread...or frozen pizza....or...

OK, results are: Madcap does an excellent job importing the project.

All the conditional everything comes in, including all the different targets.
