I'm confused about something else, yes, I know, big surprise.
I've my docs in Flare, I open up one of the topics in the XML editor, I see:
<p+>text text text...</p>
how come it doesn't show me WHAT p style is being used? Why do I have to highlight, wait for the dialog to change color under the p and then choose Style Class?
It seems a lot of work JUST to know what my styles are.
Also, in the preview, everything "looks" fine, in the output, everything looks wrong.
how do I show WHAT style is being ueed XML editor?

You can open the topic in the internal text editor and see right away what is used.

Isn't that the internal editor I'm talking about? The one that shows the HTML structure? Or is that the XML editor? Why can't I customize how the XML editor shows styles?

Okay, I am talking about the internal XML editor in Flare, yup, that's what it says in the left pane when I open the topic file.
so, how do I show WHAT <p+> style I'm using without the 3-step mambo first?
and thank you.

From this and other posts it sounds like you've somehow got the Show Tags option stuck on. As far as I'm concerned that view is worse that useless (I gather Madcap's higher ups disagree with that assessment, but I calls'em as I sees'em...). You can turn it off using the icon above your topics that looks like
<t>
That will give you the standard XML editor "what you see is pretty close to what you get" view.

The higher ups at MadCap call it the "WYSIOO" editor - what you see is one option.

Re: how do I show WHAT style is being ueed XML editor?
thanks kevin, much improved now, I agree about the XML editor, needs to be a lot more explicit in its tagging and what is shown in the editor.
only thing is for example, my note style is blue and indented .5 left and right and has a line above and below it. Looks fine in the editor, looks fine in the preview, is left-justified, 12pt Arial no formatting in the output.

Make sure the output is using the same media as the preview window.
Quite often the changes to the stylesheet are on the 'print' media. The preview window defaults to, well, 'default'.

What type of output? If it's not working in print output, then set the Stylesheet Editor to the print medium and verify that the note style is set to use a blue font and it's indented .5 inches left and right and has the border, etc. And make sure that the print target is pointing to the correct stylesheet and medium.amberlink wrote:only thing is for example, my note style is blue and indented .5 left and right and has a line above and below it. If it's not working in online output, then set the Stylesheet Editor to the "default" medium and make sure that the styles match. Also, make sure the online output is pointing to the right stylesheet. And if you're using masterpages, make sure they're pointing to the right stylesheet.
