In the Style Class dropdown (right click a P block) of the XML Editor, how do I get beyond this message, to see all of them? Is my only option to lose screen real estate by opening the entire Style Window?
Obviously, I want to assign one of those hidden 37 styles! Grrrr....

Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
Re: Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
The Styles pane is scrollable, so that's an option. I don't generally use the drop-down option (I keep the Styles pane docked), but are you able to type the first couple of characters and have it jump down? Of course, that assumes that you remember what you called the style, but maybe you could try a random letter to get close, like typing "z" to get to the bottom of the list.

Re: Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
I'm not clear on what you mean. Do you mean Flare does not list more than 20 styles (as in, no matter how you scroll, it simply only shows the first 20 styles)? Or do you mean it flows off the bottom of the screen so you can't select them?crdmerge wrote:In the Style Class dropdown (right click a P block) of the XML Editor, how do I get beyond this message, to see all of them? He means the right-click Style Class menu; I don't think you can change this.Andrew wrote:I'm not clear on what you mean. Apart from using the style window, you can also apply styles from the toolbar or the pop-up style picker (Ctrl+Shift+H). All of these show all your styles.
Re: Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
I posted a bug report for sth very similar ages ago ... was it for Flare 3? You can do the same - the more customers ask for it, the better.crdmerge wrote:In the Style Class dropdown (right click a P block) of the XML Editor, how do I get beyond this message, to see all of them? Whether you open the styles pane or the styles picker inside a Dropdownbody doesn't matter - you only get a few tags and classes in the list and there's no way to change it.
E.g.: You don't get the header tags at all ... so we cannot assign "h3" to any paragraph inside the DDBody ...
The "workaround" everybody so far told me: First edit the text, including the classes, and then make it a dropdown.
This is a real nuisance for us, because we have a handful of classes for dropdowns and parts of it. I thought it would make things easier for my colleagues to have snippets for each purpose - with the correct classes and styles assigned already. They were supposed to insert the snippet, convert it to text and edit the content ...
That was the theory ...
The other "workaround" is enter the relevant tags and classes in the text editor (not xml). But you have to know sth about html for that ... and if the topics are long it could take a while to find the right place.
Seems, MC is a bit "picky" about styles/classes/tags and dropdowns.

You might be on a different subject/thread there; this post isn't about dropdowns, it's about the style class menu.i-tietz wrote:The "workaround" everybody so far told me: First edit the text, including the classes, and then make it a dropdown.
Re: Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
sorry - right ... this limit to 20 styles is a general setting - not limited to dropdowns ... so it's not similar.

Yep, I understood crdmerge meant the right-click style class menu; I just wasn't sure what the bug was (hard-coded limit by MadCap, or graphical problem).Dave Lee wrote:He means the right-click Style Class menu; I don't think you can change this.Andrew wrote:I'm not clear on what you mean. Re: Only 20 of 57 styles shown!
Upon further review, Flare appears to be saving me from myself (admirable but annoying).
The P styles it is hiding are what I'd call Structural Default Stuff (yes, that's the technical term!), such as Concept, Indexn, ListOf, miniTOCn, and TOCn. Since it's unlikely that I'd be assigning any of those styles to a plain old P tag in a topic, I guess Big Brother knows best.
Thx,
Leon
