I have been successfully including a span class around text to make buttons appear in the flow of user instructions in a pdf
Am I wrong to be using a span class for this?
However, in topnav my button moves over to the left edge and overlays other text:
I am not aware of anything that should make the span text float left in topnav!span class in topnav

Re: span class in topnav
Take a look at the mediums you are using for the PDF and Topnav outputs and compare them side by side, you might spot where the difference lies.

Re: span class in topnav
I can't see a problem in the stylesheet
Here are the styles side by side for topnav and pdf I made the topnav version just a simple font colour and background, to see whether defining a border was causing an issue, but it seems that even that makes the span.button float left...

Re: span class in topnav
The class "button" is already used elsewhere in the skin/stylesheets generated by Flare.
Call the class something different to "button" and you'll be ok.

Woo-hoo! It works now.
Thank you Dave.
So pleased I asked here - I never would have spotted that in a month of Sundays.
