Can I include flare project files in other files?

Post by alsarg72 »

I want to have a number of targets which share all of their configuration, except for their conditions and output folder/file - so I want all the commonality in a master file - a target that includes all of the products the company has, and have other targets that include all the common config, but use conditions to only include subsets of the product suite.

I'm googling how to include one xml file in another and the things suggested cause Flare to complain when they try to load the files.

Or is there a better way to do it?

I don't know of any way to have a "master" target file whose settings can cascade down to / be inherited by "child" targets that then have additional, unique settings.

Your question is rather confusing, as a single target produces a single output, not multiple outputs.

What I think might be more useful for you is to have a master PROJECT where you control things like condition tag sets that affect several child projects (things like PrintOnly or HelpOnly), variable sets (that contain a product name variable, company name and address, that kind of thing), and stylesheet which is to be used by all the child projects.

If you search in the help for "Global Project Linking" you should find detailed instructions. (http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare201 ... inking.htm is a good place to start.)

Have a good slow read of that section, then come back to us if you need any more help.
