Adding custom header in 2018 Sidenav skin

I have the HTML + CSS code for the header we want to use...I've tried adding it to the Master page, but it doesn't work - won't pick up the right styles even though I've linked the proper stylesheet. I am using the sidenav skin released with Flare 2018.

Really, I'd like this added in the Skin file, but am unsure about how to do this. I've selected "none" for the header layout in the Skin properties, with the expectation that my custom Header code would replace the header that would have been there.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Have you checked the output to see if the stylesheet is actually linked?
If you've set a master stylesheet on the target, make sure you select 'Allow local stylesheets' - otherwise stylesheet links you insert in the master page (and topics) are removed in the output.
