Is there any way to MERGE table stylesheets?

Post by ChoccieMuffin »

I've got some existing table stylesheets that have properties set for non-print and print mediums, though some properties are set in the default medium. These are in my main bunch of projects that build CHM and PDF outputs.

I have been playing in a "sandpit" while developing HTML5 outputs and have made table stylesheets (with the same name) that use only the default medium as I'm trying to use the same content for all three target types.

Problem is, table stylesheets are really messy if you look at them in a text editor, so it's not as simple as manipulating a regular stylesheet outside of Flare, and I'm a bit unclear how best to tackle it. Any helpful suggestions, folks?

Table stylesheets aren't really designed to be edited in text mode, so I'd generally advise to edit them using the table stylesheet editor.

When you make changes in the stylesheet editor, it'll automatically refresh/build a load of other the CSS in the file.

Plus, I think the CSS update is only triggered when you edit the file using the stylesheet editor.
So if you edit in text mode, it may not take effect properly until you subsequently make another change in stylesheet editor.

Yeah, I know - it's very clever an' all, but can be difficult to look at. Problem is, unless you're really methodical with how you put table stylesheets together in the Flare interface (and I admit, when I first did them I was anything but methodical!) it can be a bit tricky to identify where values have been set in default and where they've been set in mediums.

I think I'll just have to have two versions of Flare open, and as I KNOW that the newer stylesheets ONLY have default medium values, I need to re-create the print and non-print values in those stylesheets. And then test, test, test. I see several hours of gentle Flaring this afternoon!
