TopNav Search Non-Responsive - Moves to Second Line

I'm working with a Top-Nav skin where our logo, search, and a couple main menu items all appear on ONE line in the top pane. Any time the browser window is resized at all, the search input moves to a second line all by itself, and it looks awful.
If I elect to "Use device width media queries" instead, the search IS responsive and resizes with the window, but, obviously, I then lose the hamburger menu that automatically appears when the screen is resized to tablet or mobile level. (Also, I have a menu proxy with a skin that is set to have it disappear when the hamburger menu appears/replaces it; if I use queries instead, the menu proxy just stays since it is reading the device type rather than the size requirements.)

Is there any way to get the search to be responsive? But also to maintain the switch to the hamburger menu & disappearing menu proxy that I have set on the side when the screen is a certain size?
