Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
Hi All,
I've had a scan through the forum, but have not found the answer to the following:
Is it possible to set-up the Madcap Toggler so it is automatically expanded when the page is opened?
Yours Hopefully

No, unfortunately it's not possible. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try this --> http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... =12&t=6829
In the long term, you can submit a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx.

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for the quick response. As I've got a couple of hundred screenshots all controlled by togglers, I think the feature request is going in for now, and the togglers removed until the option is available witihn Flare.
I'm not quite adventurous enough to carryout the scripting a couple of hundred times, but thanks for the suggestion.
Regards
Adrian

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
What about leaving them in and just change the wording? For instance, my togglers say "View the screenshot". So when the user opens the topic, they see a list of steps (for example), and at the end of certain steps is "View the screenshot". So if they want to see they screenshot then they click on that toggler. I also do a "main" toggler at the top of the page that says "View all screenshots". If they click that, then all the screenshots in the topic are shown.Adrian Durand wrote:... and the togglers removed until the option is available witihn Flare.
In another project I'm just using an image of an eye opened or closed to designate where the togglers are, but the situation is the same (although I'm not doing the "main" toggler in that project).

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
Unfortunately (and due to using too many features of Flare:? ) each of the images is a screen shot of the application, and I've set hyperlinks in the image map to open different screens depending on the area of the screenshot clicked.
Seeing as how the Project Managers like this functionality, they want the images opened initially, hence my query.
Oh well, it's not too onerous to remove the togglers then add them back in at a later date (198 left and counting.....)
Thanks Again

I personally love image maps, but my impression is that not too many users know that they are there and what to do with them. I'd see if the effort is worth it...or did you already create all the image maps? If yes, then ignore my comment.

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
I usually throw in a line above the image map that says something like "Click on a field or button in the graphic below to learn more about it" or something to that effect.RamonS wrote:I personally love image maps, but my impression is that not too many users know that they are there and what to do with them.

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
I do something similar to Lisa (i.e. "hover over the image to see the name of each tool, and click for a description"). This allows users to hover over the image to get a tooltip style display of the name of an element (great for documenting what toolbar icons do when they're too small to have a text caption).
Until next time....

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
Well, that requires a field or a button to be present. Once users "get it" they are doing fine and think it is a cool new feature (although it is around and in use forever). The problem is that they accessed help for the most part, because they don't get it (in the app). And having to "get" help first is a bit counterproductive. I really do like image maps since they are way more conservative in what they need compared to a Mimic movie, but the focus has to be on the user and not what is cool and looks purdy (like the Vista UI, very purdy, but totally unusable, but I think the same about the OS X UI).

Re: Setting a Toggler to Open Expanded
Hi All,
Thanks for the replies.
RamonS: All of the images are already there. The help system is for a software package that uses multi-tabbed screens, and therefore I have put links on each of the tabs in the image to jump to the specific help topic for the tab selected (including the microhelp stating 'Click to view the Detail screen' etc).
Oh well, back to removing the togglers

Hi all,
I've written a script that you can use to open togglers as expanded.
