Float attribute backwards in HTML help

Post by KevinDAmery »

Anyone else noticed that if you use a float attribute in your stylesheet, it works backwards in HTML help? For example, I have a Float:Left attribute on a Div class. In PDF and WebHelp output, that Div appears on the left of the screen, as expected, but in CHM it appears on the right.

Anyone know if this is a known issue with HTML help in general? If it isn't I'll post it as a Flare bug, but if it's just the way CHMs read stylesheet's there isn't much Madcap can do about it....
Until next time....

I use floated elements quite a lot, and haven't had seen any problems like that in HTML Help.

Could it be anything to do with your stylesheet? If your DIV class have doesn't have clear:left set, then it can still appear to the right of other elements, it'll just be floated to the left in it's own space. Although the results for HTML Help should be consistent with WebHelp displayed in IE.

Don't think so. If I build webhelp it floats correctly using the same stylesheet and same medium. Also, this Div is the only floated element in the topics, so there shouldn't be any conflicts.

Odd. Does the setting for the clear property affect this behaviour at all?
Also, if you have different mediums, I take it the target has the right medium set?

I'll take a look at the clear settings (Flare isn't open at the mo'). But yes, it is using the correct medium. I don't think the medium is the issue, because Webhelp (using "default") and PDF (using "print") both float the way I would expect, but HTML help (also using "default") doesn't. This is why I'm thinking it's an HTML help-specific problem.
