Removing unused styles from style window

Post by lanval »

There are a multitude of styles that appear in the style windows that we simply do not use, and are not defined in my Style.css file. This includes things like address, cite, del, etc.

This leads to a lot more scrolling that we would like. Is there anyway to prevent these from being listed?
Cheers,

In v4 they added a "Hide Inherited" checkbox to the Stylesheet Editor. Click that (checkmark visible). It'll hide any styles that aren't declared in the stylesheet file. (It's a poor label choice, so don't confuse "hide inherited" with inheritance as it's used in CSS.)

I think the question might be more to do with hiding unused styles in the Styles window/picker, not just the stylesheet editor.

To hide unused styles, open the stylesheet editor, click the Options button (on the editor toolbar), then select Disable styles.

You can use that to hide any styles you don't use.

HI Dave,

I disabled a lot of styles, but they still show up when I right-click on the block or when I click the drop-down to assign a style to that <p>. So, I have to use the drop down and scroll down the entire list on every paragraph and I've got hundreds in these imported files to assign. What's the value in disabling if they're still present?

I guess I could delete them, but I'm new to Flare and don't want to remove things that might be useful after I've used this awhile.

My second question: is there a way to build a "favorites" list of styles or something similar so I can format all these paragraphs without all that scrolling for every paragraph?

thanks,

Roy

Not currently, but you can open the Styles Window in the View menu or by hitting F12. This provides a window with all of the styles in it, which is easier to use than the dropdown (e.g. you can scroll to a particular style and leave the window there, rather than having to start at the top each time).

I usually dock the style window on the right side of the interface, so that it is permanently available without covering any parts of my topics.
Until next time....

That Styles window is faster - thanks for that. Gosh, if Flare were a Swiss Army knife, how many blades would it have?

And if you find a window where you can do more than 1 thing would you count it as 1 balde?
