Bind then unbind (then Bind) to Source Control

I'm wondering how easy or difficult it is to go back and forth between binding and not binding a Project to Source Control.

We have a fairly large and geographically diverse writing team. So, obviously, we are going to have the necessary project files in Perforce.

The question is whether or not to do the binding in Flare, which simplifies the writers workflow. But, if we need to do some stuff globally on the project, it might be easier to un-bind the project for a while, and then bind it again at a later point in time.

Is this a viable workflow? That is, can I turn on then off then on again the "Bind to Source Control" switch in Flare without messing up the project and its files?
