Description:
One of two writers working within a 20-member Dev+QA+Doc team responsible for a suite of long-established CAM / CNC software products.

In this role, you will:
  • Research new features and products by studying specifications, interviewing subject matter experts, and playing with the software.
  • Develop and maintain new and existing end-user documentation.
  • Create, maintain, and help localize new and existing graphics such as screenshots and diagrams.
  • Work in a Content Management System (CMS) single-source environment to generate online help and PDF deliverables.
  • Assist in the project planning processing with work estimates, task analyses, and the like.
  • Provide peer-editing to maximize consistency and to minimize errors and translation costs.
  • Provide occasional ad-hoc writing or graphics assistance to other departments.
  • Ensure reliable timely delivery of high-quality work.
  • Report directly to the Director of Software Engineering.
Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent general knowledge and experience
  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written English
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in an office team environment
  • Familiarity with standard networked Windows environment and MS Office tools
  • Technical writing work experience for software, preferably scientific or engineering
  • Experience with software development lifecycle and content development lifecycle
  • Experience with large writing projects — dozens of books, many hundreds of topics, thousands of graphics
  • Experience producing online help using a single-source authoring tool such as Flare or RoboHelp
  • Good working knowledge of HTML and CSS, preferably in an XML/XHTML environment
  • Understanding of and experience with illustration tools
  • An artistic eye
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude for learning new technologies
The ideal candidate would also have:
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Experience with localization and translation vendors
  • Skilled experience with MadCap Flare
  • Skilled experience with Adobe PhotoShop and/or Illustrator
  • Aptitude for 3D and kinematic visualization
  • Experience with CNC machining or CAD/CAM software
