Hi!
Our testers reported the following problem when trying to open the MadCap Help viewer on Vista when running as a non Administrator user:
"We have some problem with MadCap and the help in from our doesn't work on some test computers.
We don't know if this has anything to do with that we are logged in on the computers as Windows Standard Users. But that might be possible since it works if a Windows Administrator account is used.
Selecting 'Help' displays the dialog to select language. After selecting language and pressing 'OK' the dialog "Help Viewer Dep Set has stopped working" is displayed. Selecting to check online for a solution doesn't seem to help, it just get stuck forever searching but nothing happens.
The following information is offered in problem details:
Description:

I have also tested to start MadCap (using the icon on desktop) first and then trying to open help in from our application but that doesn't work."
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Your users need to have the ablitly to write to the registry, I know that most madcap applications write to the registry on first run, and your non-admin people may not have that right

That begs the question why a help viewer application has to write anything to the registry...especially to a section only accessible to admins. If that is indeed the case it's time for a bug report.

Our tester also reported that for some users it stopped working after a while. And it was possible to open the MadCap Help Viewer from the Desktop but not from our application. So could the writing to the registry issue be the full story. Have anyone seen similar problems?

If you check the following post:Madcap Guru wrote:Your users need to have the ablitly to write to the registry, I know that most madcap applications write to the registry on first run, and your non-admin people may not have that right

We've written that the viewer stores all settings in the registry under the current user and not the local machine. Perhaps fixing that would solve this issue?
