Copied PDF target shows no page layout

Post by Matze »

I have one PDF output target. Now I need a second PDF output target with other topic conditions like the first one.
Indeed, I can manage both via conditions in one TOC/target, but for me it makes actually sense to manage each in its own TOC and target.

But after copy/paste the first PDF output target, the second one does not show the page layout in the generated PDF.
This might be a flare bug? Because its crazy, I can edit the page layout of the second PDF target by clicking the edit button in the general target tab.
But in the PDF I see blank pages only without header, footer or my definied margins.

I suspect it's a TOC issue. Did you associate the copied PDF with a new TOC? If yes, have you set up the chapter breaks and assigned page layouts and pages on that new TOC? A print target's TOC is where the association is made between TOC entries and specific pages (such as a "first" or "first right" page) within a page layout. If you made the TOC by copying the other PDF target's TOC, then I'd check to see if the relative paths to the page layouts are still right. You might need to re-establish the links.

You say " I can manage both via conditions in one TOC/target, but for me it makes actually sense to manage each in its own TOC and target" but I think you need to differentiate in your head between a TOC and a target, because I suspect you'd be able to do what you want to do using the same TOC but two different targets.

@ Nita: Thanks a lot, now it works, indeed I´d some chaos in my TOC condition rules.
@ ChoccieMuffin: Hmm, right, I can do so via conditions in one TOC and linking by different targets/target output folders.

Say you have Topics A - J in a single TOC.

A, C and E are conditioned Target1 only
B F and I are conditioned Target 2 only
The other topics have no conditions.

If you create Target 1 using your TOC and set conditions to EXCLUDE Target 2 only, your output will contain topics A, C, D, E, G, H and J.
If you create Target 2 using your TOC and set conditions to EXCLUDE Target 1 only, your output will contain topics B, C, D, F, G. H, I and J.

Outputs will be in Output\Matze\Target 1 and Output\Matze\Target 2
