Create snippets for an entire topic

Post by lramos »

Hi,

I am having trouble creating a snippet from an existing topic. I need to create a snippet for the entire topic. When I select what I want in the snippet all I get is the last piece of content selected. Is this doable in MCF v12? If so, how? If not, do I need to copy/paste sections of the existing content into the snippet file until I have the entire topic?

Thanks,

Lorraine :?

I believe the Create Snippet context option is designed to use the currently selected node (be it a <p> or <li> or <ul> etc.) if it's not feasible to just copy and paste, you could try wrapping the entire body content in a <div> and right-clicking on that in XML view to create the snippet.

Hi Alex,

I think you're right. Will try the <div> tag suggestion and see if that works. If not, copy and paste will have to do.

Thanks,

You could just copy the topic and change the file extension to "flsnp".

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the only difference between a snippet and a topic is the file extension and the fact that the head section has a title tag. In any case, the head section is discarded when the snippet is resolved.

You can also use topics as snippets although the interface doesn't support it (you can't drag to embed a topic in a topic for example). I'm not sure why not, it seems like a good idea. The weird distinction between topics and snippets has always seemed pointless to me.

This happens to me when I have a topic that contains tables. I can only select the paragraphs, not the tables. What I usually do is create the snippet using one or two paragraphs, open it and then paste the rest of the topic content into it.
