Can't get excluded topics to not generate in output

Postby ktbCA57 on Wed May 01, 2019 9:12 am

i'm sure there must be a simple setting I'm missing.

I have a large project, but have one topic i need to generate to it's own output, target, destination. I have excluded all other topics from the properties of this target... but every time i build, all topics are included.

What could I be missing?

Thanks!

Depends on your output. If it's a PDF or other printed output it's easy - just create a TOC for the target with that file only. Others won't be built.

For webby, onliney, helpy outputs, you can try a similar tactic and create a TOC with JUST that file in it, in the target select your new TOC as the Master TOC for the target, then on the Advanced tag select the Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target check box.

This works IF you don't have any other topics or assorted bits and pieces as links in the topic.

Give it a go and let us know how you get on.

It only worked because you didn't have anything else linking to that single topic. And I'm no genius, it's all Flare doing what you told it to do. The only question was, "what do I need to tell Flare to do?", which you solved.

Happy to help.

If somebody else comes along later and wonders why this isn't working for them, make sure that you don't have an alias file selected. If there is an alias file selected, Flare will include all the topics in the alias file, and all the topics that they link to, and all the topics THEY link to, etc.

However, I don't think you can just unselect an alias file. I think you need to create new, blank alias file (just call it NoCSH or Blank) and then select that alias file, and your content should generate correctly.
