Flare 7: anyone else with popup problems?

Post by i-tietz »

A colleague just built a HTML Help and the popups show a "couldn't find file" message (or so) ...
She works with Windows 7 ...

YES, this is a bug in Flare 7.

I reported it.

(Case 24169) Flare 7.0 Support: Flare 7: Migration from robohelp: Popup malfunctions on a graphic region

I have the same problem. I'm working with Flare 7 now, but with Windows Vista.
When creating a HTML-help, popups windows (that worked fine before) show the text 'This program cannot display the webpage'.

Update: Some security settings are ignored by the new MC javascript ...
We posted a bug report - so did our reseller. I suggest you do that, too ...

Me too! My images with popups don't work on Flare 7. I can compile my sources in Flare 6 and all my image popups work fine. If I compile the same sources in Flare 7, none of them work - they all give the "This program cannot display the webpage" message. I reported it yesterday: it's case 24361.

Yes, add me to the list. Let's hope we'll be getting a patch soon.

We just migrated to Flare from Robohelp (a migration planned for over a year).

We installed Flare 7 ... found this problem, and had to do the whole migration to Flare 6.1 .....

Waaah!

Hi all. Does anyone know what the status is for this case? Or is there a way I can log into Madcap's bug system to check?

I believe the problem is still open.

A week or two ago Madcap indicated that a patch was in the works.... but it has been pretty quiet so far!

Then it's probably time to shake them up a bit. I'll start by sending them an email.

I, too, am having trouble. Popup windows are not displaying. I'm using Flare 7 in Windows 7. They worked fine on March 8, 2011. But since then I've seen an automatic Windows update when I shut down, just a few days ago. I've built much navigation using popups and would like hear what's up. Flare Techs?

A work-around is available - I've copied the important bits of the email I received from Support below...

1) In Windows, go to C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare v7
2) Create a "Resources" folder here and go into that folder
3) Create a "Stylesheets" folder here and go into that folder
4) Create a blank file named "MadCapBlaze.css" in this directory
5) The file should be located at:
C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare v7\Resources\Stylesheets\MadCapBlaze.css
6) Open your Flare project and build the Word output
If you continue to get the error, you will need to right-click and "Run Flare as Administrator" when starting up Flare to work. This should resolve the stylesheet error you're seeing.

Hope this helps. :D

This work-around is only for those who cannot generate Word Ouput. It will not fix popups in HTML Help.
We are working on it as I type this and should have something shortly that will address these.

I don't see a way to subscribe to this thread without replying, hence this reply. :oops:

We've reverted to Flare 6.1 until a fix for this problem comes through.

I'd like to know if this issue will be corrected soon : I can't release a new version of my online help if popups are not working! :roll:

Have you got Flare 6, too? I installed both versions and they work fine together. I edit with Flare 7 and build with Flare 6.

Yes, I have Flare 6, and it's working fine to compile.
But it is a stopgap solution, that's why I hope there will be a work-around very soon.

UPDATE (not good):
We have a HTML Help Jump Button that's supposed to open a certain URL in a separate browser window:

Code: Select all

 <script type="text/javascript">
		window.onload = redirect;
		function redirect()
		{
			hhctrl.Click();
			history.back();
		}
</script>
    <body>
        <object id="hhctrl" classid="clsid:adb880a6-d8ff-11cf-9377-00aa003b7a11">
            <param name="Command" value="ShortCut" />
            <param name="Item1" value=",URL_GOES_HERE," />
        </object>
    </body>
The browser doesn't open. The URL is not loaded. The history.back() works ... so it's probably the same cause, right?
