Script Error to Open HTML Page (Including µ?)

Post by Shinjiro »

Hello,

I've gotten an error message when I try to open several pages in my HTML Help file built in Flare 9.1.2 as below;

(translated in English from Japanese )
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An Error occurred in the script in this page.
Line: 36
Character: 3
Error: Cannot execute the code from the script released
Code: 0
URL: mk:@MSITStore:D:\XXX...\HtmlHelp\XXX.chm:\SkinSupport\MadCapUtilities.js

Do you want to continue to execute the script in this page?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found the error message seems to be displayed only when I try to open any page including the character of µ(micro) of single byte width
because all µ characters are broken on the screen, even if I've been using English font type (century).

My previous modification was Nov. 2014, but I didn't such an error message at that time.

My system configuration as follows;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Flare 9.1.2
- 32-bit Windows 7 Professional Japanese Edition
- Intel Core i5-2400 CPU
- 4GB of RAM
- Empty sizes of hard disk drives are enough (161GB in C, 204GB in D)
- I've not installed any other software applications since the previous modification (Nov. 2014).
*Of course I did automatic updates such as Windows update, Adobe Acrobat, Java, Flash player.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any suggestion and recommendation are welcome :!:

Best regards, Shinjiro

Hi Shinjiro,

Welcome to the forums :D

It sounds as if something has changed since November (stating the obvious).

So, does this happen with all browsers, or just one?

Are you viewing the output locally (ie a build) or on a server (published project)?

Have you changed the version of Java running on your machine? Have you tried updating Java? I seem to recall updating Java sometime over Christmas/ New Year.

Does the output open on another machine?

It sounds as if something is choking on Java script...

Hi Steve,

>Welcome to the forums :D

Yeah, thank you for your response :P

>So, does this happen with all browsers, or just one?

It's not clear because all HTML Helps I built are opened with the original window.
Actually, IE11 and Chrome have been installed in my client PC with Flare 9.1.2.
I guess they work under IE11. Btw can I change to the target browser by any settings in Flare?

>Are you viewing the output locally (ie a build) or on a server (published project)?

I'm viewing the outputs locally, everytime I check them in my client PC (32-bit Win7).

>Have you changed the version of Java running on your machine? Have you tried updating Java? I seem to recall updating Java sometime over Christmas/ New Year.

Probabry yes. Java Updates have come frequently and everytime I've never denied.

>Does the output open on another machine?

I've checked them only in my PC yet. But it is good question, I'll try them in other PCs later.

:idea: I should tell detailed situation;
- I've been creating and maintaining four indipendent projects for our one product.
(Two software editions for English and Japanese)
- I've guess all characters of 'micro (single byte width)' cause the error because I found they are broken in the outputs (see attached figure).
- I've used 'micro' characters in all four projects, but the error message is shown in only two English outputs (no error in two Japanese files).
- I used 'century' font type for English projects.
- After I replaced 'micro' with "micro- (normal alphabets)" , the error hasn't occur in their outputs.

>It sounds as if something is choking on Java script...

Yeah I think so too because the error message indicates 'MadCapUtilities.js' file.
Of course I've never modified all corresponding '.js' files by myself.

I hope their information is helpful to solve this issue.
Any recommendation or suggestion are welcome, thank you in advance for the help :!:

:!: Further Information (suggested by Steve);

I tried their CHM files in other PCs.
- The error occurred in my PC (32-bit Win7 Professional Japanese)
- The error occurred in other PC (32-bit Win7 Professional Japanese)
- The error occurred in other PC (32-bit Win Vista Business Japanese)
- The error DIDN'T occur in other PC (32-bit Win7 Professional US English)
- The error DIDN'T occur in other PC (32-bit WinXP Professional US English)

In conclusion, it seems to occur under Japanese edition only.

But It's sure they had worked well even under Japanese OS before I modified and built them this week :|
