Webbased review / commenting system

Postby iand on Sun Oct 30, 2016 11:33 am

Hi,
can anyone recommend a web based reviewing / commenting system? I am looking for something which will allow subject matter experts to comment on the deployed stage version of our webhelp i.e. live on the web but only accessible with a username and password. We are looking for web equivalent of adobe's pdf commenting feature. The system will almost certainly be cloud based (to store and share the comments) perhaps combined with a browser extension for viewing and adding comments. Note that Madcap contributor is not an option as we need a very simple tool that does not need to be installed on user's machine. Installing a browser extension is fine. The features we need are:

  • Private comments only view-able to members of a group. These comments will appear when a member of the group browses to the relevant page. This will probably be implemented using a browser extension.
  • Ability to view a list of all the comments and quickly navigate to the page containing the comment using a link

We have found diigo https://www.diigo.com and genius.com web annotator http://genius.com/web-annotator . The former has the ability to create a group of commenters. Comments are also private but we can't seem to view comments from other people when navigating to a particular page. The latter software allows us to view comments from other people on a page but the comments are unfortunately publicly view-able by anyone using this software. It also seems to be a consumer rather than commercially aimed tool.

Can anyone recommend something?

Thanks for your help

We are currently using https://hypothes.is/ this seems OK but still interested in any other solutions that might be out there

Hi there,

I don't have any other solution to propose, but I wondered how you were getting on with hypothes.is? We too need to be able to review web-based content, so I'd be very interested in how this is working for you, if you can spare a few minutes to give an update.

Many thanks!

Hi, sorry slow reply. It's working fine but lacks workflow features. I would like the ability to mark comments as completed or fixed and filter the view to see all complete / incomplete comments. In conclusion, better than anything else we found but I still don't think it's the ideal solution. Still not as good as comments in Word!

Hello all,
I downloaded the reviewing/commenting apps mentioned in the topic posts. I can get them to work on some websites but not on webhelp. The help is published to an https url. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

I'm having a similar problem with Genius Web Annotate. I posted a test document in HTML5 format. It is not on an https URL, but I cannot get any annotations to work in it. If anyone has ideas on how to fix this, please let me know.

Thanks.
