Navigation Tabs using Top Nav format

Post by carrielake »

Hi everyone,

I'm using the top nav format and want to add navigation tabs. Looking through this board and online help, it doesn't appear like it supports those. Does anyone know differently? Does Madcap support putting in custom code for navigation tabs?

I don't know what you mean by "navigation tabs", but Flare only uses tabs in the Tripane skin, which can show a browse sequence tab (essentially a secondary TOC) and the index tab. However, you can't add tabs for your own customisable content.

If you want to add tabs to your topic content, then you'd have to add the script/CSS for that yourself, and there are numerous examples online. Just bear in mind that things like highlighting search terms wouldn't work for content hidden inside a custom tab control. Flare wouldn't be able to automatically open the tab, in the same way it'd expand a dropdown/toggler to highlight the search term.

You might find it useful to take a look at some of the existing templates - there are loads of them - as you might find something that meets your needs. You can find them here:

Even if you don't find something that's exactly what you're looking for, you will probably be able to customise it to your needs by editing the stylesheet, skin etc.
