I'm finding that unlinked books/items in the TOC don't appear in the context-sensitive side menu within the topics. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing for this, or does that side menu just not pick up on TOC headings unless they have an associated topic?
Often I add a "More about X" book under a feature section as a catch-all for miscellaneous/reference info related to that feature. For example:
Appraisals (top level; linked topic)
--Manager appraisal (linked topic)
--Multi-rater appraisal (linked topic)
--Routing appraisals (linked topic)
--More about Appraisals (UNLINKED ITEM)
----Reassigning (linked topic)
----Rejecting (linked topic)
The "More about Appraisals" item doesn't appear in the CSH side menu, so users can't easily get to the topics under that heading. Unlinked items in the main top nav menu work just fine, so figured there must be a way to get them into the side menu as well.
I've seen some workarounds, such as creating "filler" topics for those unlinked items that just have a menu proxy. But I'm hoping I've overlooked a setting somewhere or there's a simple solution besides creating individual topics for all the unlinked items (not many, but enough across all our projects to be a pain).

Re: HTML5 Top Nav: trouble with unlinked books in TOC
Hi, I've seen the same and actually think this is a bug. I'll file a case with support. Kind Regards, Lydia.
Support ticket is filed. Just to clarify: for me the unlinked TOC items do show in a top navigation menu. They do not show when using a menu proxy to show a menu in a topic.

Yep, this is my case as well. Unlinked items work fine in top nav menu; no luck in the menu proxy within topics.Lydia wrote:Just to clarify: for me the unlinked TOC items do show in a top navigation menu. They do not show when using a menu proxy to show a menu in a topic.
Thanks!

Sorry for the bump, but wanted to see if anyone has heard of or come across a solution for this?

Re: HTML5 Top Nav: trouble with unlinked books in TOC
The only bodge I can think of for the moment is to create a topic and link it to the currently unlinked book. Something like:
More about appraisals
The following topics give further information about:
* Reassigning
* Rejecting
Yes, it's a faff and doesn't add anything to the help, but at least it will allow your users to see the sub-topics.

Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2023.

Yeah, that's what we did in the interim, just created "filler" topics with menu proxies for those unlinked books. Not ideal, but it's working for now.The only bodge I can think of for the moment is to create a topic and link it to the currently unlinked book.

Has anyone heard back on a way to resolve this other than entering "filler" topics? Thanks!
