TOC based on h1, h2, h3.. in topic?

Post by magkon »

Hi!

I wonder if it's possible to create the TOC based on the topic heading level?

If I'm reading this right you want to automatically generate a TOC based on heading level, much like Word does?

Which TOC are you talking about? As you posted in web help the only TOC I can think of is the MasterTOC used to build content. Flare, being a single sourcing tool, needs a set of instructions to tell it what to include (and implicit in that is what to exclude) so building the master toc automatically wouldn't work.

If you are talking about a TOC like appears in Word documents, have a look at the TOC proxy. This creates a TOC of document content in the same way Word does.

For online/help targets (not print), if you want to generate items in the TOC based on heading levels, use the Compute sub-entries from linked file option in the TOC editor.

It's in the help here: https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare2017/Content/TOCs/Auto-generating_a_TOC.htm
