URGENT! Data root level invalid / XML Parsing Error

Post by fvila »

Hi all,

I had a build bug with error message "Build failed: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1"
It occurs on one target, not others.
I updated to the very latest Flare version (2017 r3 2017-12-04), rebooted, problem persists.
I took a target that worked and changed just the TOC > the error occurs.
I clicked on Help > Report a bug and I got a web page with an error message. I copy pasted it below:

XML Parsing Error: no root element found
Location: https__(***delete this***)__://www.madcapsoftware.com/feedback/bugs.as ... +13.3.6547
Line Number 1, Column 1:

I'm not a coder, but when something like this happens where one item "works" and another item of the same type doesn't, I do a comparison between them and see if I can spot what's different, apart from the bits you would expect to be different. Might be worth a go...

Thanks. I tried a different target (that works) and simply changed the TOC, and that had the same error...
I've managed to open a ticket, using an earlier version of Flare.

That seems to point to an error in the TOC. Are there any broken links? If you take your broken target and point to a different TOC does it work?
