individual bullet items missing in output

I've just observed a weird thing in our web output:

When opening a topic page that contains a bullet list with 3 bullets, #1 loads properly, #3 loads properly, but #2 doesn't. It's empty. Missing. The text is there but no list number.

I thought there must be an error in the topic and went looking but couldn't find anything. It's just a straight-forward numbered bullet list with paragraph list items.

But then I returned to the topic in the browser and suddenly the missing #2 was there.

So I reloaded the page and again #2 was first missing and then loaded approx 40 seconds later. It appears that I can reproduce that with 2 examples in 2 different topics.

I'll have to analyze this further but wondered if anyone here has experienced something like this already?
