Condition tagging

Post by Mritunjay_g »

Hi All,

We are into health care domain and everything is working fine with MadCap Flare. I want a help in a new requirement raised by management.

I give you some background, we have many clients and our project has more than 15 modules. We are providing online documentation with application using CSH, on pressing F1 key on any screen, our MadCap documentation page opens up. Currently this (Client based conditional tagging) is working fine.

But issue is, through menu click one user can see any other topic also for which he/she is not entitled.
Example - there are 6 modules, A, B, C, D, E, F and every modules has 20-30 topics. If I am the user of module A(say admission), I can see the piece of information of that particular topic on which I have pressed F1 key. But through menu(top left bars) click I can see listing of all modules(put in TOC) and can surf any other topic also.

Being a user of admission module I can see the Lab module also, which I do not want him to see.

So the requirement is, under one target I have 20 modules and some 20-30 topics under every module. I want to put conditions on module also so that admission module user can see only his bucket stuff. I must see all the topics of that particular module only.

Hope I could have given clear idea.

I will appreciate if someone come forward and provide me solution.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if this would work for you, but could you provide a separate help file for each module? I'm sure someone will come along with a more sensible suggestion if this one is silly.

Thanks ChoccieMuffin,

I tried that also but issues are,
1. I will have n number of targets
2. I am using CSH, how number of target can work for one application simultaneously.
3. We put project in SVN and from there with application build it goes to the client.

There are many gapes, if we could address them.... it it feasible.

Again thanx.

Hi MJ

If each module has a separate help file, I would have thought my suggestion would work. The CSH in Module A would jump to Module A's help file only, help in Module B would jump to Module B's help, etc. I suspect you'll need separate alias files for each module but I could be wrong. You may have to speak to your developers to get this to work. Good luck, and if there are any expert opinions out there, please speak up!

Hi ChoccieMuffin,

Thanks for suggestion, I thought so that but issue was... I will have to delete some common files of each module(Target in MadCap), correct ?
So, bit confused, whether deletion will effect working(flow) of project ? Fine, I will go for it again.

I am the only person.... doing all jobs...development, testing, implementing.....

Thanks fir your efforts ChoccieMuffin!!
