My Webhelp default topic is not showing up as my default

Post by amberlink »

I went through setting a specific topic as my default via:

Open the Primary Target File (icon in the toolbar) > Basic tab > Startup Topic > choosing my specific startuptopic.htm

However, after I generate I see a book open up which is the book RIGHT AFTER this topic and open to the first topic in THAT SECOND BOOK.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? This is very frustrating and I'm following all the rules but this is just annoying.

I assume that is not the topic that you wanted to show up? I'd clear the output folder and try again as a first step. Also, did you save the project properties before recompile?

Just did this, and still no change. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Are you outputting this to a web server and it's on that web server that you see that behavior? Or is this happening on your local machine?

I guess I should have said all this up front, just didn't think of it.

Local C: drive, not a big help system, about 50 topics, compile to WebHelp after cleaning out the output directory and my non-default second book shows up as my default topic when my help system prompts me if I want to view my output.

It's annoying because the way I want to dump a user into the help is into the overview topic but instead, they're dumped into the logging in topic which is the second book. The first above it is closed and the Navigation book is opened (second book) instead.

I would suggest that you open a support ticket using the following URL

https://www.madcapsoftware.com/support/ ... ntact.aspx

This would allow us to better track your issues.

Startup topic not working consistently

Post by phanna »

I'm experiencing similar behaviour to that described in this topic:
http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... tup#p28435

In my case everything works as I expect on my local machine. When I upload my content onto another web server and launch the help system however, the correct startup topic (which is a top-level book) appears momentarily but as soon as the whole skin is loaded, the topic changes to the first topic within that top-level book.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Paula

Is it possible you have the topic file included twice in your TOC?
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release

Merged topics to keep them in one place.

Thanks for merging Steve, good idea.

The checked and the topic appears in my TOC only once. Any other ideas?

If you create a different target and use this target does it still occur?

I created a new target and now it works! Yippee!
I don't know what was wrong with the old target (I haven't analyzed it yet) but I guess it can only be human error. Thanks for your help!
