Error Code: 800a9c68 Object is not valid

When compiling Manuals (created using a variable doc), we are getting the following error message:
Error Code: 800a9c68
Fatal word error occurred. Object is not valid.

We had this a few years ago and it was related to the Source template and numbering lists.
We have tried the solutions given then, but it is not fixing the issue this time

error Code 800a9c68 is hard so resolve, unless you can undo your last changes.
Please try a complete new Project with less Contents but the same templates. This is to find out whether the issue is caused by a template or one of your source documents.
