Can I import index keywords from a different project?

Post by Jen »

Hello!

I'm new here, so I hope I'm posting to the correct place?

We are a small team of authors working on different Flare projects that are all based on the same software, and we would like to use the same index keywords (more or less) within each project to keep our indexes consistent. Is it possible to have a core set of index keywords that you can import into different projects?

Thanks,
Jen

So from what I can gather, indexes are generated from the topics that exist in the TOC.

Would the following work?
Create an IndexHack topic.
Insert my core index tags into the topic (because I'm a pedant, I will probably type the words as well as have the tag! ;) ).
This will make the index tags available to the rest of the project.
Use the Index window to drag and drop the relevant tags into other topics.
Exclude the IndexHack topic from the TOC.
Build the project.
Am I correct in thinking that any unused index tags in my IndexHack topic will not appear in the generated Index?

If this works, I can then include the IndexHack topic in my GlobalProject and use it in other projects. The initial file will take some work, but is possibly worth it for importing those tags into the other projects? Is this viable?

Ta!
