CHM index crashes software in Window 10

CHM index crashes software in Window 10

I just learned that our software product locks up and must be restarted IF our customers enter a search term into the Index search of the CHM help AND they are on Windows 10.

Our developers say the online help needs "reindexing," but how does one "reindex"? I just create standard index key words in the Flare help project and then generate the help as I normally do. There is no "indexing" or "reindexing" step that I'm aware of.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on how to "reindex?"

I would appreciate any help anyone can offer!

Greetings,

i'm also having the same problem at the moment.

A CHM index search which worked flawless under Windows 7 and 8.1 crashes at the moment i start typing into the index search field and also crashes the program which openend the CHM file using the ::HtmlHelp funktion of VisualStudio.

The chm index search does not crash when i open the chm with hh.exe

That sounds like a rather unpleasant bug - both of you should report it. (See my signature for a link)

Sounds more like yet another flaw in Windows 10. I'd also report it on the feedback app in Win 10...even if all those comments seem to end up in the abyss of Microsoft ignorance.

Hi

I want to contribute my experience with Windows 10 and HTML Help:
As DocToHelp MVP I already tested HTML Help created by DocToHelp V3 in Windows 10 for some weeks:
No problems with index.
Now, I created a smal project with Flare 12, with HTML Help Target with three topics, two of them indexed:
Could open chm file created by Flare with view resp. in outfolder, open the index tab, click an index and get the indexed topic.

Does anyone know if this problem has been fixed? I've just found from our Dev and QA team that we have the same difficulty with our recent helps built using Flare 2017R3.
Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2023.

What looks to be working for me so far it to set the index options to binary.

Go to the skin > html help setup tab> index options... and check binary.
