Formatting Manual Output

Post by sepp »

Hi Guys

I'd like my manual output to be formatted.
Therefore I editted a word template and created an own css-file, which is used in
every document of my project. In design mode, the topics all look like they should,
but when I build my project, d2h creates additional styles in the output an my
styles are not properly used.

Here's my question: How can I set up my template, my css-file and my topics,
so that just the styles from the css-files are used for the manual output.

Sorry for my bad english skills.

Kind regards

Hi Sepp,

Formatting Word output in DocToHelp is done be editing the appropriate target template. Target templates are different from source templates, since the author needs different tools for source documents and manual documents.
Target templates can be modified, or even exchanged by own templates.
In source documents styles may have a different appearance*, especially since Word has a lot of options to influence appearance of text.

* I assume that this is what you name "design mode", or do you edit xml files in an older D2H version?

Hi SKamprovski,

thank you so far.

All my topics are xml-files.
I have one css-file for formatting all topic which works great for the help output(chm-file).
I edited a target template for my word output and if i create my output, some styles from the css-file
are used in the word dokument and others don't.

Can someone please tell me how I can solve this.
Or someone please can tell me a "simple" way of formatiig my topics that they'll looke the same in help and manual output.

Thank you very much.

Kind regards
Sepp

Hi Sepp,

I suggest to take a close look at formatting in your Word output as well as in your source files and add resp. modify those styles in your target template that are not ok, especially those that D2H created.
Actually, I am not sure whether this helps. It's a while ago that I worked with xml sources, yet I remember some difficulties.

Hi

Thanks for your answer.
The wrong styles are created while building the project.

The main problem is, that the styles from the css file are not properly used in the word output.
Some are used correctly and others don't.

Kind Regards
