MadCap Capture Conditional (text) failure in pagelayout

Post by sdcinvan »

Hello all,

I now need to add co-branding for some of my documentation. My solution was to create a single image with each corporate logo side-by-side (in order to ensure relative size, position, and space between logos). Next, in MadCap Capture, I placed a white box over the secondary logo with a condition that it covers the secondary logo unless I am publishing the co-branded documentation. This technique works well EXCEPT when this conditional logo is placed inside a Page layout footer or decoration. What I have discovered is that MadCap Capture conditional (text) settings seem to be ignored whenever they are used inside a Layout footer or decoration. Is this a bug? Or have I done something wrong.

I would rather not have to create a separate cover page and content page layouts for the two different branding types.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi Shawn,

Sounds like a bug to me. I recommend contacting support, if you haven't already.

I have and the response back was an extremely disappointing and lazy form message to zip my Flare project and send it to MadCap support... nothing more. Another less than optimal support answer. MadCap support has been unusually poor quality in the past few months. :(

I just want to know if it is possible to use a conditional image (created in MadCap Capture) inside a pagelayout footer. :?

The reason why they ask for your project is that there are by now 235782357835783784583745 different variations of settings and ways of putting a project together. Devising a strategy to help you is much easier and faster if support does not have to guess what conditions are at play. If you want their help you have to give them at least a chance to do so.

Sorry if I wasn't clear... asking for the project wasn't the issue. I was disappointed b/c the support person didn't answer my questions. For instance, it would have been very helpful to first, understand that what I was trying to do is supported by Flare. Knowing this (now) encouraged me to spend a little more time to find the problem myself.

So, in end end, is this supposed to be supported by Flare and it doesn't work (i.e., it's a bug)? Or is it really not supposed to be yet, but it something they ought to do in a future release (i.e., it's a feature request)?

Sorry for the slow response. I am afraid I don't know.

Due to the lack of time to experiment, I had to create separate page layouts, rather than use conditionals MadCap Capture images inside the footer.

To be clear, only MadCap Capture conditional images were affected but only when the images are placed in a page layout footer.

When I have some spare time, I will test this issue in a new project with a default stylesheet.

Were the conditions applied to the image in Capture, or were the conditions applied to separate images on the page layout?

The conditions are applied inside of MadCap Capture. I have several images layered, each with a condition set so that only one of the layers appears, depending on the Flare target. This concept works perfectly with my dozen targets with the one exception... the conditions appear to be ignored when the image is placed inside a page layout footer.

I promise to test for a MadCap Flare bug, after my next release cycle.
