No search capability in CHM help after Flare 12 upgrade

Post by acrissen »

After upgrade to Flare 12 (from 11), there is no search functionality after building .chm files Message is "No topics found".

I understand this is probably an "itcc.dll" file issue, and I've tried the "fixes" on this forum and through other internet searches. Nothing has worked.

When I run "regsvr32 itcc.dll", I get error the message "The module "itcc.dll" failed to load."

When I tried to double-click the "RegisterItcc" .bat file, I get the message "The module "itcc.dll"
was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005. I've looked up that error code but also haven't been able to resolve my problem.

Any suggestions about how to resolve this problem will be appreciated.

I received a prompt response from MadCap software tech support, and it fixed my problem. FYI, I did the following (from MadCap email):
1. Run the command prompt as administrator (Windows Start bar search for Cmd > Shift+Right click > Run as admin)
2. In the command prompt type the following:
cd "C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare 12\Flare.app\Resources\bin"
3. Hit [enter]
4. Then please type:
registeritcc.bat

I think I had seen this info somewhere in my searches, but I didn't do it correctly previously.

Regards.

Yeah, we have to do this each time we install Flare to a new PC/build machine. This issue has bitten us many times over the years. Now we have a topic in our internal documentation for configuring new machines for use with Flare. :)

Thanks for posting this. I knew the solution was something like this but I found the thread really quickly.
Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2023.

I cannot see why MadCap have not made the dll registration oa part of the installation yet. This is so frustrating.

Same with Flare 13/Flare 2018. I had just moved to a new hard drive and was moving way too fast and my .chm almost made it to release.
