Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Is there a solution for this? I'm on Flare 11.1.2 and this is still happening to me regularly. I have to restart Flare to get the text box to accept typing. TIA.
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Unfortunately, I think the age-old "restart Flare" or "copy and paste into the boxes" workarounds still stand strong. It doesn't look like there's been any additional movement on this issue from MadCap.
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Thanks, MattyQ. I've emailed MadCap tech. support - Case 90442 Flare 11.1 Bug: Sometimes cannot type in Find and Replace text boxes. We'll see if any solution happens.
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
MadCap support suggests trying two things.
- Close Flare.
- Navigate to C:\Users\[Your User]\Appdata\Roaming\MadCap Software\Flare.
- Delete the CatapultMDIEditor folder.
- Open Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Search for Microsoft .NET Framework.
- Right-click the item > Uninstall/Change > repair.
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
I've had this problem on and off for the last cuople of months.
I have now tried deleting the folder mentioned above and the Find and Replace box has now been working for the last 10 Minutes, which is a first
Hope it stays this way.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
MadCap is out of touch with its customers, on this one. I work in a corporate environment where the registry is locked down and it's two weeks of effort and explaining how I'd need access to the registry to fix a vendor's bug.tyip wrote:MadCap support suggests trying two things. …
Not.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Hi Jerome,
The first suggestion involves deleting a folder off your c: drive, not the registry. You may need to turn on the Windows Explorer setting show hidden files first.
It may still be tightly controlled, but less so than the registry (I can't edit the registry, but I can access my c:\users folder), so I think it would be worth double-checking.

I'm also seeing this problem. This is pretty absurd.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Yup, in 2017 r3 it's still there, and still after I've been making lots of changes in my project.
How extremely frustrating that they claimed it was fixed several years ago but never has been.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
I called tech support, and in my case, this happened because the Find and Replace cache was full.
To fix it, you delete the "CatapultMdiEditor" folder from your C: drive.
1) Open your file explorer.
2) Go to your C: drive
3) Drill down to C:\Users\[your username]
4) You might need to click the file path to move to the next step. Click the file path and then type "C:\Users\[your username]\appdata"
5) Navigate to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\MadCap Software\Flare
6) Delete the file the "CatapultMdiEditor" file.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Thanks mimisc. Very annoying that there isn't a more elegant solution to the problem, but good to know there is at least some way to fix it.
Madcap, if you're reading this, you really should sort it out.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Incredibly, in January 2019, this bug STILL exists (build 14.1.6875.33553). I had been using Find and Replace a few times, when it refused to accept typed input in the Find box. Only restarting Flare will make it work again... but only for two or three more searches, after which it refuses further typed input. If any Flare developers read these threads (I doubt it) please can you devote some time to this incredibly long-standing bug?
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
I encounter this issue intermittently (in every build of Flare from 2017 thru now, 2019r2) - but I've found a simple work around that works reliably. Even though I can't type in the field, I can paste text into - and then it works as expected.

It's still happening... May 2020. Sheesh.
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
I don't see that MadCap has addressed this. I assume someone's filed a bug?
Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
I know the bug has been there for years, but still everyone that has this issue should report it as the bug anyway.mcowan wrote:I don't see that MadCap has addressed this. I assume someone's filed a bug?
I'd take a guess that bugs with more reports are more likely to get fixed.

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files
Confirming it's still a bug in 2020r3.ChoccieMuffin wrote:Dave Lee wrote:mcowan wrote: Thanks for the reminder, bug submitted (again!) quoting this thread.
@ChoccieMuffin will you report again?
There have been quite a few updates in nearly a year, and this scores an 8.5 on customer dissatisfaction/product dysfunction scale.
BTW: The CatapultMdiEditor file delete fix still works, too.

Happening to me too (hadn't noticed it much for a while now even the first search of the day won't let me type).
Submitting a bug report. It's such a time waster.
