Local help issue

Post by autocart »

Hi all,

Just as a side note, I am still on a perpetual license for Flare 2018. But I think/hope that that should not really matter for the following issue:

When I press F1 inside Flare, it opens a "HelpUnavailable.htm" page saying:
You are not connected to the Internet and do not have the local Help installed.
You can modify the installation via Programs and Features in the Control Panel (Uninstall/Change) in order to include the local Help.
Obviously, the first part is nonsense, because I am connected to the web. That is also how I write this post, by being connected.

For the second part, I did install the local documentation/help along with the main software. At least I had the checkmark in the installation dialog checked.
I also tried to "repair" the installation and also to "modify" by unchecking and then again rechecking the local docs check mark in the intallation dialog. Nothing helped.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to make local help work (again)?

Also, I looked for a place where I can download local help separately from the main software but did not see any such link.
Does such a download exist?

Regards, S.

Hi,
If you open the Flare Options dialog, on the General tab, do you have the Prefer Local Help option enabled?
If not, that may be why it doesn't launch locally, provided you downloaded it.

However, I have found a link to the 2018 help that works.
https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare20 ... -Flare.htm
For some reason they don't provide links to the help for older versions on their website. :(
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Feebeegeebee.

Thanks, that was it. Wow, that makes no sense what so ever. How stupid a software Flare sometimes can be.

Yes, well, the actually most current 2018 version online help is found under:
https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare20 ... tarted.htm note the "/flare2018r2/

It is quite sad. Also on the KB https://kb.madcapsoftware.com/Content/Welcome.htm they started removing older release notes. Seems like they want to cut off users with older perpetual licenses, also when looking at the new licensing model. They are turning themselves into kind of the monster that they claimed they want to fight in the first place (at least in my perception). Seems like money / success corrupts character again. At least, they are defenitely not as "mad / cool / friendly" anymore as they used to be. One striking example for that is also their change in "appearance", e.g. their video introductions.

I hope not. I've had more than my fill of that from other vendors.
Trent.

Certifiable.
