MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
Can someone please assist me this these questions?
Where can I find more information about those roles as for MadCap Central:
Information Architect
Collaborator
Project/Program Manager
Executive Administrator
They were featured in the CxM Configurable User Roles.
I also tried to search with the key word "Architect" did not find anything.
https://documentation.madcapsoftware.co ... =architect
How have the User/Seat names changed recently in MadCap central where previously:
a) Writer User/Seat is now the Information Architect
b) SME User/Seat is now the Collaborator
These were used in the MadCap Central Getting Started Guide:
https://docs.madcapsoftware.com/central ... -Guide.pdf
Chapter 3: Users and Permissions, it only mentions these User Types:
Author, Subject Matter Expert, and Viewer. It was published in 2023:
Thank you in advance.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
You've correctly deduced the name changes. I had the same issue. I've just moved to a new company and discovered the changes when I was speaking to out rep. I guess I should get back to visiting here every day
The new contributor seat is way more powerful that the previous SME seat. It can add original material. It's editing ability is a somewhat limited and the IA/Flare seat will need to finish it off. We just purchased yesterday and I'm awaiting my keys.
The executive seat shuffles licenses between users and can access metrics and reporting functions, but has no project or editing ability.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
I seems odd they are wanting to sell and provide new features/user/seat types before there is any documentation about them.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
I can't speak to that - I was way out of the loop with Flare/Central for the lasty year and didn't even realize it had changed until I was looking to write up a PO.
It's pretty easy and they have a video for reviews. They're just like us. Some writers and a bunch of devs scrambling to get things done. The docs will get there. Are you in the slack group? If not, I strongly suggest you join. The channel has way more traffic than the forum does and you'll get faster responses, too.
PM me your email address and I'll get an invite sent to you if you need one.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
For some reason I couldn't send a PM to you, so could you try sending one to me and perhaps I'll be able to reply? I'd like to join the Slack community. Thanks.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
Has anyone actually purchased and used Contributor or Executive licenses?
We're about to renew our Central licenses and I'd love to be able to change one of our Author seats for an Executive and some Contributor seats. Not offered on renewal and still no info on the website (the cynic in me says it's 'cause we'd be spending less). I've managed to "trial" the contributor functions by using Author seats and limiting their functionality manually--but not with actual Contributor seats.
I have a potential use for Contributor seats, but I need to sell it to my colleagues. Messing with incorrect licenses isn't going to help my case.
Seems bizarre to me having watched the webinar so long ago that there's still so little information.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
I suggest you reach out to MadCap's sales department to ask these questions. We're just peers here and can't speak to MadCap's Central licensing options.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
We got our licenses a month or so ago and also have the old license names. MadCap setup our site with the Contributor and Executive licenses both set as Author until they roll out the change. It essentially works the same as Central's planned future mode.
That lets me run central, allows my contributors to review/add material, and the executive designees to shuffle our team members in and out of the contributor role (in our author seats) seats.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
So same situation I am in: cut down Author licenses in place of the up-coming(?) Contributor and Executive ones.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
Yep, pretty much. It'll get updated soon and then we can push the users to the right seats.

Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
Are reviewer seats "generic?" For example, if you purchase an additional 10 licenses, can you swap users if someone leaves a project, or if there is a brand new set of reviewers for a different project? Or do you have to buy MORE seats?
Re: MadCap Central User/Seat Roles
You can freely swap seats out between people, thankfully.
