Creating Volumes

Might seem like a silly question, but I have a long manual (700+ pps) in one Flare project and I need to split it two volumes - separate projects. There are so many images and links, inserted links and cross references, that it take 20+ minutes to open the project and sometimes 10-15 minutes just to save a topic.
It seems like the only answer is to split the work in two so the project(s) are easier to work with.

Is there a function within Flare that would let me do this 'simply' while retaining chapter numbers', links, and cross-references? FYI, our target output is exclusively PDF files as we are still printing hardcopy for our customers. So... can anyone help me with this?

You can build multiple Flare projects in a TOC, so perhaps some combination of this and using External Resources for any images that need to be shared between topics?
