I'm working on my first ever help file.
I got everything in place and I'm ready to build my primary target. However, i keep on getting a recursive target link error see below
I'm not sure what you mean by saying to use a different smaller TOC. How do i make a small Table Of Contents. I'm almost certain that i have pointed the toc back to the targets. How do i check and make sure? Here's a screenshot of my TOC
I think Richard means to create a new, additional TOC with only a few topics in it. Then connect that new TOC to the target and try again. If that works, then it most likely has something to do with the original TOC. You can link anything to a TOC and If I understand correctly, when you link TOC entries to items in the Output folder you end up with a recursive link. You need to make sure that none of the TOC links point to something in the Output folder.
Did generating output ever work before? If yes, when was the last time that it did work? What was changed in the TOC since then?
No did not generate output before this is the first time i tried. I will go ahead and do what you recommended. Thx.
I will post my results.
Thanks again.
Just to clarify, you're not supposed to link a TOC entry to the target. Entries in the TOC should only point to topics, bookmarks in topics, external web pages, or PDFs and similar files (if you're building WebHelp then you can't do the latter if you have MOTW on).
The TOC shouldn't point toanything in the Project Organizer, but items in the Project Organizer (generally just targets) may point to the TOC.
Lisa Eagles may soar, but weasels aren't sucked into jet engines. Warning! Loose nut behind the keyboard.
Also, before you build anything, it looks like your output folder is the same as your project folder. This can cause output files to over-write source files, so you do NOT want to do this. Change the output folder in the target to a new location to avoid possible problems.
Until next time....
