Capture a Tooltip?
Capture a Tooltip?
Hello - I'm a brand new Capture user. I need to capture a screenshot in a Web-based application that shows the tooltip label when you hover over the new button on the application. Whatever Capture method I use, the tooltip disappears in the captured graphic.
You can see what I'm talking about (tooltip) if you hover over the FAQ, Members, or Logout on top right of this screen to display the tooltip.
Can anyone tell me how to capture the screenshot with the tooltip displayed?
Thanks.
Pam

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
If you don't *have* to use Capture, you can get tool tips just by pressing Print Screen (on your keyboard).

Thanks Laura - Sometimes the solution is so uncomplicated and straight-forward that I miss it.
How would you get the print screen version into Capture for editing (cropping, saving as a .gif, etc.)?

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
Paste it into Paint or Photoshop or something like that so you can save it as a .jpg or .png or whatever. then open that in Capture.
Honestly, i'm not a huge fan of Capture, although sometimes it is good enough for what i need to do and not too complicated. other times, it just doesn't have enough features that i need. in that case, i use photoshop.

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
Lately someone of the forum drawed attention to SnagIt. I tried it and use it. I like that tool now very much.
One very positive feature:
You can capture the tooltip or a menu list, etc. SnagIt uses a delay and just picks up what you want. See http://www.snagIT9.com.

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
And it would be very helpful if Capture allows to paste in a new image from clipboard. Then one wouldn't need extra tools. Still, SnagIt is kewl.

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
How about a "make blurry in selected area" option?

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
Wow. Can't wait to see it. I'd really like to use Capture full-time, but I just can't yet. I'm a SnagIT user, though I think that most of SnagIT 9 is over the top. I think I preferred the simplicity of SnagIT 8. But then maybe I'm becoming a curmudgeon.
Re: Capture a Tooltip?
I'd go with that, Make Blurry is really nice. A good Gaussian blur algorithm is rarely done well by screencapture tools though. i.e. the snagit Blurry effect for example, is not IMHO a gaussian blur when it should...purely IMHO.lacastle wrote:How about a "make blurry in selected area" option?
Screenshot Captor a freeware alternative, works rather well on this respect, with highlights, callouts, lots of workflow type efficiencies, like shortcuts, and auto selections.
Snagit is still good though. It captures more scrolling windows correctly then other applications.

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
i think capture's got a good blur algorithm..and the image resizing algoritm is pretty decent and suitable.

Re: Capture a Tooltip?
Thanks Will - glad to see time delay will be implemented. TBH Capture is basically useless to me ATM as I have to capture tooltips in almost every image.
I like the functionality for callouts etc, so as soon as this is implemented, I'll use the tool again.
