Convert Webhelp Plus back to Webhelp?

Post by durbinni »

Is it possible to convert a Webhelp Plus project to just Webhelp? I tried building something as Webhelp Plus but didn't realize I couldn't preview it without IIS. Is there a way for me to not start all the way over on this?

I am using version 3.1.

Thanks!

You should just be able to create a new WebHelp target. It'll automatically build the output to a different folder, but of course, you can specify a different one. Or were you talking about on the server, too? If that's the case, then you'll probably want to delete everything from the server before uploading the WebHelp files, otherwise you'll have a mix of files on the server and that probably wouldn't turn out too well. But if you just want WebHelp output to view on your computer, then just create a WebHelp target.

If you want to test the WebHelp Plus on your own computer and have Windows XP Pro, it has IIS capabilities -- you'd just have to enable it, and once you did, you could use a second WebHelp Plus target and publish to the IIS on your local computer.

I have no idea if Vista or Windows 7 are IIS capable by default or if it depends on which version of the OS you're running.

You can install IIS on Vista and W7. It comes with the OS, but is a bit tricky to get installed and configured. Unfortunately, WebHelp Plus demands the use of IIS although there are clearly better web servers available that have way less issues than IIS.
