Scrolling down smoothly in Flare XML Editor

Post by ccardimon »

I'm trying to find a way to smoothly scroll down in the Flare XML Editor using the keyboard. Page Down thumps down to the bottom. The Down Arrow jumps down one line at a time using the cursor - not smoothly, in my opinion. Any suggestions? Tips and tricks for using the keyboard in Flare?

That was always a complaint. Especially the cursor down does not jump from text line to text line, but sometimes jumps between lines when there is the end of a tag. I find that really annoying and that "include tags" behavior should be reserved for a Ctrl+cursor key combination, because sometimes it is useful, but usually it isn't. I recommend filing a bug report, because this is clearly a bug.

If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel that will work, but yeah, there's not a way to do it via the keyboard.

It kind of makes sense. If you look at the page code in the Internal Text Editor and have word-wrap turned off in the editor, then you'll see a relatively small number of lines of code, so the code could easily be less than one page tall, which is why paging down takes you to the bottom of the page. The XML Editor is showing you how that code looks when it's rendered in a browser after the stylesheet and masterpage/page layout have been applied. It's not the actual structure of the page code, though, which is why using the keyboard to move up and down doesn't behave as you'd normally expect it to.

That's my theory anyway.

I disagree that is makes sense. At least now, 2019. Page down should go a screen page down like 99% of all GUI apps on Windows these days.
