'Loading' image remains displayed after search
'Loading' image remains displayed after search
After upgrading to Flare 7, I have done the following
1) Built WebHelp output.
2) Viewed the output locally.
3) Searched my WebHelp system for a phrase within quotes that has a space in it, for example "the following".
The text "Loading" and a progress bar appeared (as expected).
The list of search results then appeared as expected but the 'Loading' text and bar remained displayed. I believe that both the text and the bar are a single image - loading.gif.
From this point onwards I was able to continue using the help, and it worked as it should except that whenever I have the Search accordion item selected, the 'loading' image is still displayed on top of my search results.
I will lodge a bug report but has anyone experienced this or found a solution?
I didn't experience this problem with help served from a remote Web Server, only with locally-served WebHelp, and then only when the search term included quotes and a space. I've attached a screenshot.

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
Hi Laura
I am using IE 8.0, Firefox 3.6.15 and Chrome 10.0.648.204. I get the same behaviour in all of them (with local WebHelp built from Flare 7).
I would be interested to know if other people are experiencing this. Maybe it's not Flare, it's me.
p.s. I have had a look at those 2 topics now and tried the javascript change. The last javascript change suggested in the second post didn't make loading.gif go away. Instead loading.gif remained displayed and none of the search results were returned.

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
I see it, too, and it's not necessarily that it has a space -- the same thing happens if I search for a single word inside quotes (e.g., "grandparent"). It does bring up a topic in the results, but it doesn't highlight the matching term in the topic. So the problem seems to be with using the quotes around text to search for a specific string.

Hi James. It's definitely not just you. I'm seeing this bug too. Please let us know how you get on.

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
Apologies for digging up a 7-month old thread, but I haven't been able to find any recent discussions on this topic.
I'm having a similar issue in my WebHelp system where a Search doesn't fully load - seems to get stuck displaying the Loading icon (no results appear). It seems to be dependent on the term used since sometimes I can get it to display correctly. However, subsequent searches seems to get stuck as well.
Running 7.2 at the moment.
Suggestions?

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
I'm pretty sure this was fixed. here are the release notes.

i'm not sure why you would still have this problem though. are you using quotes "x" around your search word?

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
Naw, just a plain search string. Single or multiple words, result is the same - hangs on the Loading icon.lacastle wrote:are you using quotes "x" around your search word?
Doesn't really seem to care if the quotes are there or not, hangs both with and without them. But again, depends on the search terms - I can sometimes get it to work, but most of the time it does not.
EDIT: Are there options/settings in the actual Flare project that I should be looking at for a fix?

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
If you're getting it with v7.2, then that suggests it's not been fixed for all cases. I'd report it as a bug with MadCap, and see what they say.
I actually noticed the same 'Loading' issue yesterday using Flare 7's online help (webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare7/Default.htm).

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
I'm still having trouble with getting Search results to load, unfortunately.
Just did a rebuild of WebHelp, and it works fine on my local machine. However, once published to the server, any and all searches (quotes or no quotes) seem to get stuck.
Any suggestions as to possible fixes would be great, gracias ...

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
Giving this thread a little bump, narrowed down my problem a little.
I'm finding that when I perform a search on a term that does NOT exisit in my help, it properly (and quickly) returns the expected "No Topics Found" message.
However, when I perform a search on terms that DO exist in my help, it hangs. The "Loading" icon remains, and I get no results.
Awaiting a response from support, but in the meantime, maybe someone here has some suggestions?

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
I build and publish my WebHelp output multiple times per day and this issue appears and disappears for my users at random. It doesn't even have the same results from one client to the next. I've been trying to gather more data for a bug report, but it is so intermittent I can't nail anything down.
Thanks for keeping the topic alive.

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
MadCap Support suggested updating a setting in the WebHelp target.
On the Performance tab of the target, make sure the "Chunk Large Search Database Files" option is enabled, and set the Maximum Chunk Size to the lowest setting (10,000).
(Unfortunately, this didn't solve my problem, but wanted to throw that in here in hopes it might help someone else with this issue.)

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
I'm experiencing the same problem using Webhelp Plus/Flare 7.2/IE 8.0. But for me, the Loading icon is displayed for all accordian tabs (TOC, Search and Index) - ALL the time.

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
Not sure if this matters to the problem at hand, but thought I'd throw it in here in case someone has related advice ...
On my Master Page in Flare (used to generate WebHelp output), I use both Google Analytic code and the "noindex" code that prevents search engines from crawling the WebHelp.
Might one (or both) of these be related to the Search issue? I don't see how a few lines of HTML in a Master Page would crash the built-in Search for WebHelp; just trying to consider all options.
EDIT: Removed the Google Analytics code from WebHelp output and re-published; did NOT solve the problem. Back to the drawing board ...

Re: 'Loading' image remains displayed after search
I continue to have this problem intermittently and have been unable to find a workaround other than restarting IE. Just thought I'd bring the topic back to life and see if anyone has discovered any other hacks.
Thanks,
