Last time I made changes to our release notes and converted to PDF output, everything displayed correctly in the PDF. Another writer recently made changes to the release notes and, when he converts the release notes to PDF format, the PDF output is not displaying correctly except for bolded text (sample below; company name blacked out). Everything looks fine in Flare and in the .chm output.
Someone in this forum reported an identical problem and determined that the problem was caused by having Windows magnification set at 125%, rather than 100%. We checked and found his magnification was already at 100%. Any other ideas or suggestions appreciated!

what font are you using? certain types of fonts may not be valid in pdfs.

I agree with Laura re font. The font in bold at the bottom seems fine, whereas the normal font looks as if it is trying to emulate a monotype font.
