HTML5 Glossary Issue with Internet Explorer 8 and 9

Post by markmetcalfemm »

I like the way glossary terms pop-up in bubble help on HTML5 output (instead of clicking to see the bubble help in the Web format). However, I have discovered that Internet Explorer (8 and 9) rendered the background color of the bubble invisible, and the white text of the bubble help can only be detected when it is superimposed onto text or a darker color.

1. Has anyone else seen this?
2. Is there a way to set the background color of a glossary pop-up (hoping that an explicit setting will solve the problem)?

P.S. Works fine in Chrome and Firefox.

I'll answer my own post! My IE9 browser was in Compatibility view. It should not be. Here is how to fix the issue:

1. Press F12 in your IE9 browser. A settings menu bar appears at the bottom of the browser above the tabs.
2. Set Browser Mode to Internet Explorer 9 (not Compatibility view).
3. Set the Documentation Mode to IE9 Standards.
4. Click X to exit.

I have the very same problem, but I also need to be compatible with IE8.
How can I get the glossary popups working (or at least readable) in IE8???

Any ideas welcome...
