Displaying topic is not highlighted on the contents panel

Post by hranga81 »

Hi,
I navigate to topic A in the contents panel in Web Help; topic A displays. I click on a hyperlink in topic A, topic B displays. But the contents tab o the left still highlights topic A, instead of B.
Any suggestions/solutions?

Thanks,
Harini

In your web skin, on the General tab, select Automatically Synchronize TOC. I think that wil do it.

Hi,
In the Web Help, the Contents panel on the left does not synchronize with the topics on the right. The Automatically synchronize TOC check box is selected in the Skin file, yet it does not synchronize. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Harini

It doesn't synchronize with any topics, or it does with some but not others?

Also, what version of Flare are you using to build the output?

Hi,
It doesn't synchronize with any of the topics. I am using Flare version 8.
It works perfectly fine in the local output, i.e., the View Output option in the Build. When I copy the contents to the web folder, the web output doesn't get synchronized.

Thanks,

If it works locally but doesn't on the web server, then either some files were missed in the upload, or something on the server is preventing the effect from working. Or your browser. Does it work with other browsers when viewing it on the web server?

Hi Lisa,

It doesn't work in any of the browsers. I am copying the following list of files:
  • Content folder
  • Data folder
  • Resources folder
  • Skins folder
  • csh file
  • Default
  • default.mcwebhelp file
thrown by the output, and copying it in another folder. I access the online help with a path pointing to the second folder.

So, basically, I don't change any content, but still it doesn't work after I copy them.

What is the missing factor?

Thanks,

Harini

I don't know enough about servers to know if there's some setting that has to be enabled to allow that feature to work. The only other thing I can think of is if you have MOTW enabled for that output; that setting causes problems when viewed on web servers, but usually you don't see the content, not that you see the content but it doesn't sync. So you might have to contact MadCap Support to see if they have any suggestions.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for getting back to me. I will contact support and I am going to discuss this with a UI developer colleague to understand the behavior.
